Q  What is the history of the Caylloma Mine?
A  The Caylloma Ag-Pb-Zn-Cu Mine's on and off production history dates back to approximately 450 years ago and since then, it has delivered more than 250 million ounces of silver. Fortuna acquired the mine from the Hochschild family in 2005 after they decided to close it down in 2003 due to low metal prices. Hochschild focused their operation solely on mining narrow high grade silver veins which are very labor intensive and difficult to mechanize. In 2002, the last year of production under the Hochschild's, Caylloma produced 2.6 million ounces of silver.

In 2007, under Fortuna's ownership, Caylloma's main mill sourcing came from the polymetallic Animas vein while exploration campaigns were launched to look for high grade Bonanza type silver veins.
